Trust / Evidence Standards
See where the evidence came from — and what it means in context.
Talvrin Evidence Standards describe how source-linked research preserves provenance, timing, jurisdiction, version, rights/access state, evidence relationships, and the separation between source evidence and interpretation.
AI may assist research, but generated output does not become authoritative evidence. Coverage, availability and rights depend on released capabilities and governed sources.

Six Evidence Doctrine Principles
Six principles govern every evidence surface.
These principles apply across Research, Evidence and Monitoring — not only on this page.
Evidence before assertion
Important conclusions remain connected to the information supporting them.
Source before summary
A convenient explanation must not erase the underlying source.
Transparency before persuasion
Explain uncertainty rather than manufacture certainty.
Coverage before claims
Describe what is actually supported rather than theoretical capability.
Context before confidence
Dates, jurisdictions, versions and relationships can materially change meaning.
AI assistance, not AI authority
AI may accelerate research without becoming the evidence.

Source to Research View
Don't just show me the answer. Show me why.
Every displayed research conclusion preserves a navigable path back to evidence where the product supports that relationship. The chain never implies that every source is equally authoritative or equally complete.

The Evidence Object, One Contract
The minimum fields a public evidence object can expose.
Every field is conditional on registry support and publication approval. No field is invented to make an item look more complete than the governed source record allows.
- evidence_id
- Internal stable identifier; not necessarily public.
- Internal
- source_identity
- Named organization, publisher, issuer or authority — never generic "web source" when known.
- Required when known
- source_class
- Primary / official / licensed / institutional / other governed class.
- Conditional
- original_title
- Human-readable original source title.
- Where permitted
- publication_time
- Source publication time plus timezone where material.
- Conditional
- effective_reference_period
- Period to which the evidence applies, where different from publication time.
- Conditional
- jurisdiction
- Relevant jurisdiction or market context.
- Conditional
- version_state
- Current / prior / superseded / corrected / unknown or governed equivalent.
- Conditional
- supersedes_ref
- Link to prior or next version where governed and rights/retention allow.
- Conditional
- rights_access_state
- Permitted / restricted / unavailable / governed equivalent.
- Required for actions
- evidence_relationship
- Supports / contradicts / updates / contextualizes a defined research object.
- Conditional
- open_source_action
- Deep link or governed viewer route, only when permitted and available.
- Conditional
- provenance_layer
- Source / normalization / Talvrin analysis / AI-assisted / user note.
- Required if mixed
- change_state
- New / updated / unchanged / superseded / materiality pending / unavailable.
- Conditional
- limitations
- Human-readable limitation or unknown state.
- Mandatory if material
- last_reviewed
- Governed review timestamp for Talvrin’s interpretation, not source publication time.
- Conditional
No-score rule
The supplied Talvrin sources do not establish an evidence confidence score, source trust score, quality score or completeness score. Designers and engineers must not invent one. A future governed methodology would require its own approved definition, calibration and publication gate.
Classification, Not a Quality Score
Five registry-backed source classes.
Source class is descriptive provenance metadata. It does not imply that every "official", "licensed" or "institutional" source is complete, current, or superior in every context.

Published and Effective Are Different Questions
Time, version and jurisdiction stay visible when meaning changes.
Unknown or not-supplied context is kept explicit — it is never silently promoted to a confident state.
- Publication time
- Display source publication timestamp; include timezone where material.
- Effective / reference period
- Shown separately when the evidence applies to another date or period.
- Reporting / economic period
- Exposed when material to filings, economic data, fiscal data or policy.
- Retrieval / ingestion time
- Internal/conditional; public only where meaningful — never used to call a source "current."
- Jurisdiction
- Exposed when meaning depends on legal, economic or market context.
- Last reviewed
- Applies to Talvrin’s interpretation or standard review, not source publication.
Lineage Without Rewriting History
A superseded source stays traceable — it never silently disappears.
- Where a source provides revision/version semantics, the evidence card or timeline exposes current vs. prior, superseded or corrected state.
- A corrected or superseded source must not silently overwrite the research trail when retention and rights permit lineage to remain visible.
- The research object records which version was used at the relevant time, so later reassessment can explain why a view changed.
- If lineage cannot be established, the product shows an honest unknown/unavailable state rather than inferring one.
- Version history is not a promise of indefinite retention; retention depends on approved product, rights and governance policy.

Transparency Does Not Override Rights
Evidence can be inspectable without ignoring data rights.
Rights/access state constrains what can be displayed, linked, quoted, cached, exported or made available to a user. Restricted content is never exposed beyond permitted use.
- Permitted
- Shows permitted metadata/content according to rights policy.
- Opens the governed viewer or deep link if available.
- Restricted
- Shows only permitted metadata and a clear restricted state.
- No unauthorized content exposure; only the approved next action is offered.
- Unavailable
- Explains the source/action is unavailable without pretending evidence never existed.
- Disables or removes the broken action while retaining permitted context.
- Unknown / unresolved
- Does not assume access rights.
- No public open action until resolved by rights governance.
Licensing, entitlement, permitted-use and redistribution principles are the dedicated subject of Data Rights →.
Evidence Relationships
Evidence can support a view without becoming the view.
Relationships stay neutral. None of them equal proof, recommendation or certainty.
Supports
The source provides evidence consistent with the research proposition or fact being examined.
Say "supports" rather than "proves" unless the proposition truly warrants stronger language.
Contradicts
The source conflicts with or weakens the proposition or assumption.
Keep visible and equally navigable — never suppressed because it is inconvenient.
Updates
The source changes or supersedes relevant evidence or context.
Connect to the change/version timeline where supported.

Five Layers, Never Blurred
Source, normalization, analysis, AI and user notes stay visibly distinct.
Every mixed-content surface keeps these layers persistently labeled rather than visually merged.
- Source evidence
- Highest evidence-source treatment; named source; metadata grouped.
- Source identity + relevant time/context + rights/access + relationship where applicable.
- Talvrin normalization
- Neutral transformed-data treatment; labeled as normalized/structured by Talvrin.
- Reference to underlying source(s) where supported.
- Talvrin analysis
- Interpretive treatment, clearly distinct from source.
- Author/editor/process attribution where appropriate and governed.
- AI-assisted interpretation
- Persistent AI-assisted label plus source links where relevant.
- Never source-authority styling; never guaranteed-fact wording.
- User-created notes
- Workspace/user-origin treatment.
- User/workspace attribution according to product/privacy rules.
Uncertainty Stays Visible
Seven states — none of them quietly becomes certainty.
Unknown stays unknown; restricted never exposes content beyond permitted use; materiality is never assumed by default.
- Unknown
- States that the relevant fact or state is unknown or not established.
- Never an ambiguous blank when the state is material.
- Partial
- Explains which part is available or limited.
- A visible limitation label sits near the affected evidence.
- Conflicting
- States that evidence conflicts; avoids forced synthesis into certainty.
- Shows both or all relevant evidence relationships.
- Restricted
- Explains the access limitation without disclosing restricted details.
- No unauthorized open or export action.
- Unavailable
- Explains the source or action is unavailable.
- Preserves permitted metadata and dependency context.
- Materiality pending
- States a change exists but materiality is unresolved.
- Never styled as high-impact or material until governed.
- Superseded
- States that a newer version exists.
- Maintains lineage/timeline where retention and rights allow.
Change Without Fake Materiality
A source update is not automatically a material change.
Source change is differentiated from market-price movement and from research materiality. Where monitoring is not live for a class or market, the limitation is shown instead of implying continuous monitoring.
Change ≠ materiality
A new item, revised document or restored availability is an evidence change — not automatically a material one.
Change carries context
Source identity, change type, time and affected research relationship accompany each event where available.
Unchanged is a scoped claim
Meaningful only when the comparison process and scope are defined — never implied as exhaustive monitoring.

Inspectable, Accessible, Honest About Limits
The source should never disappear behind the answer.
- A descriptive deep link or governed viewer route is used — never a tiny icon as the only control.
- If external, the user is told they are leaving Talvrin, without creating warning fatigue.
- If access is restricted, the state and next permitted action are explained — never a broken or dead link.
- Source-open events never leak sensitive query, entitlement, token or internal identifier data into analytics.

Answers First
Evidence Standards frequently asked questions.
Important conclusions stay connected to the source evidence behind them, with a navigable path from the research view back to that evidence wherever the product supports the relationship.
Source identity and class, original title, publication time, effective or reference period, jurisdiction, version state, rights/access state, evidence relationship, provenance layer, change state, and limitations — each conditional on registry support and publication approval.
No. AI-assisted interpretation is a separate, persistently labeled layer with source links where relevant. It never receives source-authority styling or guaranteed-fact wording.
It shows the conflict as-is, keeping contradicting evidence visible and equally navigable rather than forcing a synthesis into certainty.
No. Retrieval or ingestion time is never used to call a source current. Publication time, effective period, and version state are kept as separate facts.
No. Rights/access state constrains what can be displayed, linked, quoted, cached, or exported. Restricted content is never exposed beyond permitted use.
No. Evidence can be partial, conflicting, restricted, or superseded, and those states are shown in plain language. There's no confidence or quality score without an approved methodology.
Where rights permit it, through a descriptive deep link or governed viewer. If access is restricted, the state and the next permitted action are explained instead of a broken link.
